Empties- Pt. 1

I love watching empties videos on Youtube. They are some of my favorites because you get a mini review of products plus you get to snoop and see what other people use. Plus, if someone says something bad, it usually ends up saving me money! I have been piling up a lot of empties recently because I have been trying to use stuff up and get my money’s worth. I named this part one because I think there are two many to put in one post. It takes a lot more work to type out your description than it does talking to a camera! Anyway, lets get started!

 1.     Covergirl Bombshell Mascara- This has had mixed reviews. Everyone seems to love what the mascara does for their lashes but people seem to think it is hard to get off and ends up pulling out their eyelashes. I loved this mascara at first. I used it everyday and never had trouble getting it off with my normal makeup remover. However, towards the last few uses, I noticed half of the eyelashes on one eye were broken off. I am still hoping they grow back, actually. I don’t know if this mascara had anything to do with it or not but just in case I won’t be repurchasing.

2. Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter in the scent In Bloom- I have used up three or four of these body butters that I got in sets. They make my skin feel nice but they are a little greasy and really pricey. Like over $20.00 for one body butter. I also seem to use them up extremely quickly, like in just a few uses. I won’t repurchase unless it comes in a kit.

 3.    Mary Kay Pore- Purifying Serum- I really like this stuff. It is a daily serum that has acne-fighting medicine in it and is supposed to help reduce the appearance of pores. I notice a big difference in both my breakouts and my pores when I use this. I am already on my second bottle and will continue to repurchase.

  4.     Mary Kay Clear Proof Oil- Free Moisturizer- This would be perfect for summer. It is really lightweight and helps control oil. I have a few moisturizers I want to use up but this is something I would definitely come back to in the future. If you are oily, aren’t concerned with anti-aging moisturizers, or just prefer a lightweight moisturizer, then this is definitely for you.

5. Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 hour blush in Dollface- I got this as a sample from Sephora and used it for about a week. It is a pretty, natural looking pink that gives the face a glow. I have used these blushes before and they are good blushes but they don’t last 12 hours on me. If I am going to pay more than $20.00 for a blush then I want it to live up to its claims and these just don’t do it for me. I think NARS blushes and the Balm blushes are better alternatives.

6. Josie Maran Argan Oil Hand Cream- I have gotten these in several kits as well and I really do enjoy this hand cream. I don’t think I would repurchase it by itself because of the price. I mainly use hand cream at work because my hands get dry from washing them so frequently. and I really don’t want to keep applying a high end hand cream and then washing it right off. This is a great product if you can afford it and feel like paying that price for a hand cream, but it is just not practical for me.

7.    Covergirl Clump Crusher Mascara- I really like this mascara. I use it by itself, layer it with other mascaras, and even use it to fix other mascaras that have clumped. I plan on repurchasing but I have a few open mascaras now, and I really want to use them up first.I love the rubber brush on this mascara. It doesn’t seem to flake or fade on me, and it isn’t a problem to remove. I feel like this is a high end mascara at a drugstore price.

8.      NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing Face Powder in Sunny- This is a great drugstore bronzer and it is extremely cheap, like under $3.00 cheap. It is matte and would be great on fair, light, and maybe medium skin tones. I enjoyed this bronzer but I think it would be a little too light in summer for my face. I really had to layer it on to get any warmth to my skin. I admit that I am not very good at contouring and I like this bronzer for that because I could easily blend out mistakes. Overall it is a really great bronzer, but I am a bit of a bronzer hoarder. I currently have three bronzers in rotation in my makeup drawers plus three unopened in my stock pile. Needless to say, it will probably be a while before I go back to Sunny. If you are just starting out with makeup or want a cheaper bronzer, then this one is definitely for you.

Have you guys tried any of these products? Let me know what empties you guys have been working on in the comments below.

It is like 60 degree in Ohio and sunny right now! Last night, it was snowing and cold… I am ready for summer. 🙂

March Favorites

I am so ready for March to end. I want warmer weather, plus my birthday is in April. Baseball starts in April, and April gets me a month closer to vacation with my hubby! I have had a hard time coming up with favorites this month because I focused a lot on simply trying to use up some products, but I have been able to come up with a list of products that I have reached for all month long!

1. It’s a 10 Miracle Leave In Plus Keratin- I have been using this stuff all month long because I recently cut 7 inches off my hair and wanted to try and keep it from getting damaged. I have used the original but I prefer the one with Keratin, even if I put nothing else in my hair and let it air dry, it smooths frizz, makes it incredibly soft, and the scent lingers throughout my hair for a while. If anyone out there hasn’t tried this yet because of the price, I am telling you that I was there, too; but it is worth it! It’s around $20.00 at CVS for a 2oz bottle but the company only recommends 2-3 sprays on each side of your hair, and honestly, I think that is too much. I spray about 3 total sprays then comb through my hair. I have been using my bottle for about a month and a half and I can barely see a dent.

2. Paul Mitchell Hot Off the Press Spray- This spray is a lightweight, flexible hairspray and a heat protectant in one. The idea is that you spray it on before heat styling and then again to set your style. I love this spray because it doesn’t weigh my hair down or make it greasy, like some heat protectants do. It also doesn’t leave my hair stiff or crunchy, which some hair sprays do. I have been using this stuff before all heat styling and then to set my hair when I curl it. I love this stuff but I have almost went through a whole bottle and it isn’t cheap. I am going to have to use it sparingly for April. 🙂

3. Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask- This is my holy grail hair mask. It is becoming harder for me to find and I hope that means it isn’t being discontinued. I usually buy it BOGO at CVS or Walgreens. It makes my hair so smooth and soft. I really think it helps to repair the hair. This mask is from orange, triple moisture line by Neutrogena but I noticed they had a new purple, triple repair line that has a mask. I might have to try that one if this one continues to be hard to track down.

Body and Face

1. Dove Deep Moisture Nourishing Body Wash- I have extremely dry skin and I hate lotion. I shave with this stuff, use it as a body wash, and put it in my baths when I soak. It leaves me soft and moisturized.

2. Garnier Nourshing Cleansing Oil- This stuff is amazing! It is a drugstore knock off of the Josie Maran Cleansing Oil. It takes off all my makeup, even waterproof eye makeup, and it smells so good!

3. Mary Kay Timewise Even Complexion Essence- Anytime I break out, I am left with dark spots and this stuff has been helping to clear up old spots. I have also noticed that newer spots don’t get as bad and fade much quicker.

1. It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Concealer in Neutral Medium- This is supposed to be an under eye concealer but I actually use it as a foundation, when I am running late. I just put a few dots on my face, buff it in with a brush, set it with a powder and I am good to go. I have been running late for work a lot this month, so I have been reaching for this quite frequently. I got a super size version of this through a QVC TSV last year, but when I run out I will still buy the small version to use as an all-over foundation.

2. Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette- I have used this almost everyday for work when I want a natural smokey eye, or just a natural eye look in general. I love this palette!

3.The Balm Sexy Mama Anti-Shine, Translucent Powder- This is a new addition to my collection, but I have used it everyday since I got it. It seems to perfect any face products you have underneath and really helps combat shine. When I use it I don’t even have to touch up my makeup. I got this off of hautelook, when it was 50% off. Next time, I will probably stock up.

4. The Balm Time Balm Foundation in Light- This is also a newer addition to my collection but I love it. It is an extremely full coverage foundation. I spread it on my face with my fingers then take a damp sponge and blend it it for a more natural look. If I need more coverage on certain areas, I won’t use the sponge to blend. I really like this foundation and it supposed to have good ingredients for aging skin. I might buy some for my mom next time it is on hautelook.

Food, TV, Books

1. The Mentalist- My husband and I needed a new show to watch and my mom gave us her seasons of this show to borrow. We are now hooked on it.

2. Michael Connelly-  He is my favorite author, period. I love his Harry Bosch series about a detective in Hollywood. He incorporates a lot of actual events into the timeline of his books. I have read all of the Harry Bosch series before, but have actually been re-reading them this month because I am out of school for the time being.

3. HannahMax Baking All Natural Crunchy Cookie Chips- These are amazing! I love chips, like seriously I could eat the whole bag at one time. I also love crunchy cookies. My husband likes to eat them straight out of the oven when they are gooey, but not me! I like to wait until the crisp up. I saw these grocery shopping the other day and thought I would try them. I got the flavor chocolate chip. Wow! They are like tiny, crunchy cookies but you eat them like chips. I am in love! I have eaten the whole bag :(… Next time I will have to by more in preparation. 🙂

Products I want to try

Hello everyone! After working five-12 hour shifts this week, I am exhausted. It has taken me two days of sleep to catch up, but I am finally awake and ready to type. Today I wanted to focus on the list of products that I want to try. Do you guys keep lists? One tip I have found that helps me save money is to make a list but hold off from buying the product (unless it is life-altering)  until I either use up something else first or until I weigh the pro’s and con’s of how much it costs to how many times I will use it and all that other good stuff that us responsible adults are supposed to consider before purchasing new products. Nine out of ten times, when I go back and look at my list, I end up removing a product and saving my money. That said, I still have a long list of things to try so let’s get to it.

1. Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum-

I have a mini bottle of this stuff and I love it! It makes my hair super shiny and smooth and smells like citrus. It takes such a little amount of product that I think spending the 20 plus dollars for a 5.1 oz is worth it in the long run.

2. Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Hair and Scalp Treatment-

This is like an exfoliating scrub for your head. I don’t really deal with dandruff but I seem to have a lot of buildup and this dry winter weather has made it so much worse. I have used this in the past and really enjoyed it and would like to purchase a new bottle. It tingles and calms my scalp all at the same time.

3. Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave In Conditioner-

I love my It’s a 10 leave in but a friend recently purchased this and said it makes her hair so soft and manageable. I have picked this up a few times but put it back simply because I have a lot of hair products that I am trying to use up right now. I will be purchasing this though, so let me know if you have tried it.

4.  Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Nourishing Styling Treatment-

This product has argan oil in it and can be used as a leave-in, a styling product, or a deep moisture treatment. This product is pretty expensive- $22.00 for a little over 4 oz, but I think it will last a while.

1. MAC-

I have never tried any mac products before. I have my eye on the prolongwear concealer, a lipstick, lipgloss, mineralized skin finish, and a paint pot. Do you guys have any mac suggestions?

2.  Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Opal-

This highlighter comes in both a pressed version and a cream, but the pressed version is gorgeous. I have seen Jaclyn Hill and Melissa Raymond use this products in tutorials and I drool every time. I have a couple of highlighters I need to use up first but this is definitely on my list.

3.  Makeup Geek eyeshadows-

(Pic from makeupgeek.com)

I have never tried anything from this brand before but have seen so many beauty guru’s reference them as some of the best eyeshadows available. And at $5.99 a piece, they are definitely affordable.  I have my eye on cocoa bear, vanilla bean, and prom night. However, when it comes time to order I doubt I will stop at just three. I have some eyeshadows that I need to get a few more uses out of before I toss them, and then I will probably start purchasing these bad boys as replacements. Have any of you guys tried these before? If so, what are your favorite colors?

4. Hourglass products-

Hourglass: High Tech. High Fashion. Luxury Performance Makeup.  (Pic from Sephora.com)

I am a bit obsessed with this brand. I have two of the ambient lighting powders, but I really want them all. They also have new blushes that look gorgeous and a foundation I want to try as well. I have a various assortment of powders that I need to work through before I try the rest of the ambient powders and if you read my post about things that I want to use up in 2014, then you know I need to work on using up my blush collection, also. Ahh, I hate waiting, but I am trying to be a little more frugal this year.

So there is my list! What do you guys want to try this year? Leave me a comment below..
